I was notified that this painting won first prize in oil in the Agawam Community Artists and Artisans Annual Art Exhibit. It can be viewed with all the other excellent entries on display at the Agawam Library until December 30th. Very humbled that this was chosen considering the great talent in this group!

I used brushes and painting knives on this oil painting. It is entitled "Crane Pond Waterfall" and my perspective is viewing the falls through the overgrowth of trees and brush on the shore. It was very difficult to get an unobstructed view because of the trees and the deep ledge to the water. I used the knives on the leaves in the foreground.

I just rejoined Oil Painters of America as an associate member and started an associate membership in the American Impressionist Society. Both are great national painters organizations which put on exhibitions each year. Their websites are www.oilpaintersofamerica.com and www.americanimpressionistsociety.org

I had a great time Sunday afternoon with two students in my Plein Air Acrylic Painting Workshop. Picture below is of Phyllis and Jason. This was Jason's first time painting outdoors and he did great. After two hours the light faded but both will finish their paintings indoors with the photos that they took of the Westfield River.

Just sold this oil painting of the Gillette Building to the Westfield Gas & Electric Company who occupy the building. I had it framed in an antique gold wooden frame. I should have taken a picture of it with the frame! It was painted en plein air on location in the parking lot across the street on a Sunday afternoon in the summer. It is oil on canvas panel, 11" x 14".

A week ago Saturday I had an outside plein air acrylic painting workshop in Westfield. My student and I painted this scene in Chauncey Allen Park in Westfield. My acrylic painting below is on a 9" x 12" board. Usually my acrylic paintings are not as textured as my oil paintings.

I painted these five oil paintings during the last two months in plein air or on location in downtown Westfield. Although not architecturally accurate I wanted to hopefully engender an nostalgic feeling about these old historic buildings. Three of the five original paintings are available for purchase and they all can be purchased as prints or the images reproduced on coffee mugs, greeting cards, shower curtains, bags, etc. at my website at www.richard-nowak.pixels.com
I just gave this oil painting as a gift to my 82 year old uncle Ewald in Canada when my three sisters visited him last week.

I had a great time painting plein air another historic building in Westfield. This time the old train station. I have a photo of it below when I started and my impressionistic painting of it. The light changed throughout the afternoon and the colors and shadows on the building changed.

I painted this "Maine Coast" oil painting from my photo that I took last July when I was on vacation in Wells, Maine. It is oil on canvas, 18" x 24" and I used thick textured oil painting. Great fun painting in my studio on a rainy day when I couldn't paint outside!
Yesterday I went out and painted en plein air or on location at Hampton Ponds in Westfield. I will finish it in the studio and upload when finished. I made sure to use social distancing when out during this virus crisis!
