I went out Sunday afternoon to plein air paint because of the beautiful weather and didn't want to waste the opportunity. I started painting this scene which is near the black renovated bridge near the Westfield River in Westfield. It shows the railroad tracks, the back of the former railroad station and other adjacent buildings. I still have to finalize the painting in my studio and will upload it when it is finished!

Just completed this commissioned painting of a weathered barn in Granville. Oil on canvas panel, 16" x 20", painted from photos. Now I am letting it dry to varnish and then will find an appropriate frame for it. Actually the barn is beautifully remodeled inside and is used for events such as wedding receptions. Please google Bliss Farm for details.

This past weekend I worked on this oil painting which I call "Clouds Over Westfield Bridges". I used a photo that I took last year as a source reference taken on the renovated railroad bridge. The painting is oil on canvas panel, 12" x 16". I still have to make a couple of edits before it is finally finished!

I had a great time teaching at Creative Arts Center in the Rinnova Building in Westfield yesterday. There were six students each developing their own different acrylic painting. They had me "hopping" going from student to student with suggestions for their painting. A couple of them finished their paintings and are ready to start a new one. They are a great group and we all had a great time. There is no pressure and each paints at their own pace. The classes are ongoing Tuesday nights 6-8 pm and beginners are welcome! The picture below was taken a few years ago at a class. Please see www.westfieldonweekends.com and click on the creative arts center to see details on how to register for a class!

I just received word back from an online art appraisal company regarding the value of this oil painting that we have. It is a George Carpenter oil on masonite board measuring 20" x 30" image area. It is titled "Cundy's Harbor". We received it as a gift from a friend who was moving some years ago. The appraisal came in as $1000 to $1500. Jean my wife loves it and remembers seeing it in a window display in a gallery in Rockport, MA years ago.

I just got an online art appraisal of this oil painting that was found by the side of the road in Westfield by my sister who gave it to me. Things people throw away! It is by Cape Cod artist Marilyn Schofield dated 89 or 80. It looks like a Cape Cod winter shore scene. It’s appraisal comes in as $200-$400. My wife Jean loved the painting and we framed it!

I received the painting below as a gift years ago and just got an appraisal from an online art appraisal company. It is a large pastel painting of a lighthouse and is dated 1976. The artist was Nathan Kredenser and the light house is Ned Point Light in Mattapoisett, MA. Value is only $200-$300 because he was a relatively unlisted artist who specialized in murals.

The painting below was made by James Hendricks a former professor of art at UMass Amherst. He created large mixed media paintings of abstract objects many looking like comets and space explosions. One of his paintings were on the cover of Time magazine I believe back in the 1970's. He gave this as a gift to me and a couple of my associates when he was a customer of the print company that I worked for.

I took advantage of the warm weather Saturday and ventured out plein air painting in Westfield. I painted Crane Pond just before dark and made some edits in the studio.
I just received as a gift a graphite sketch pictured below. The artist is Harold von Schmidt a famous illustrator/artist from the mid 1900's whose illustrations and paintings were in the Saturday Evening Post and Colliers magazines. His paintings go for thousands of dollars. I was told that this sketch was one of many that he did of his comrades during the World War II.

Another boat painting! This time an old rusty trawler from a photo that I took while on my trip in Newport harbor a few years ago.

I just painted the first painting of the new year pictured below. It is a nautical scene of a large red working ship that we saw while on a trip to Newport Harbor years ago.
I came upon an older oil painting that I painted over 15 years ago. Oil on canvas, 24” x 30”, painted with heavily textured oil. I call it “Covered Wooden Bridge, Stanley Park”.
